HOW DID WE GET OUR START 50 YEARS AGO? The idea of a vocational and technical school in Springdale, AR. began way back in 1973. On March 3rd, 1973, a bill was introduced to the Arkansas State Legislature to appropriate funds for "...the constructing and equipping of various vocational-technical schools...." That document is shown in this post. We've also included historic newspaper articles and photos to illustrate just how NWTI (then called Northwest Vocational-Technical School) was established and began to evolve. We'll have much more news and history in the coming months as we celebrate our journey towards 50 years of providing workforce training excellence! Won't you please join us? #nwti50thanniversary #nwarkansas #vocational #technical #school #workforceeducation

MORE FROM BEHIND THE SCENES of a CDL truck inspection video shoot. This step by step video conducted by NWTI CDL instructor Lonnie O'Bryant (in the orange gloves) will show just how a currently valid semi-truck inspection is conducted, as there are new rules out there. NWTI Director of Business Partnerships (and ace videographer) Aaron Chastain is making sure all the angles are captured, and the sound quality is good! Stay tuned, our YouTube Channel will have the finished product uploaded after the holidays. #cdl #truckinspection #nwti #teamwork #americantrucking #transportation #trucking #semitruck

Today in our Student Center, we celebrated the retirement of two outstanding individuals! Dr. Debra Walker and Mr. Scott Plumlee. Dr. Walker has been at NWTI for almost 10 years as Chairperson and Instructor of our Nursing Program. She had this to say about her impending retirement at the end of this year: "I have always believed that we have one of the best nursing programs in the state. I believe it's the right time for me to move on. But it is also time for our other nursing instructors to leave the nest, but I know they will fly." Scott Plumlee, Automotive Technology Instructor has been with Northwest Technical Institute since January of 2001. He started part-time, and went to full-time in August of 2004. Scott started our High School Automotive Program in 2008 as a pilot program. Mr. Plumlee said this about his time at NWTI, "I got the opportunity to do my dream job, and at the best 'darn' school in the state!" We will all miss you both very much, as will all our students and alumni. THANK YOU FOR YOUR DEDICATION AND SERVICE. #nwti #northwesttechnicalinstitute #automotive #nursing #lpnprogram #automotivetechnology #workforceeducation #nwarakansas #appreciation

The Springdale Chamber of Commerce' Marshallese Youth Initiative came to visit us here at NWTI today. These students are ready to learn, grow, and make an impact! This energetic group learned about what programs we offer, and basic information about each and why they may interested in them. Our tour guides and instructors took time to explain what hands-on learning actually means. You see it in the classroom and then actually go do it yourself in a lab or shop! And see those "bingo cards" in some of the photos? Well just to make extra sure almost everyone is paying attention, we have squares on the cards, and those squares have questions in them. And to get the answers, you have to pay attention to the speakers in order to get them. There were fabulous prizes to be won! A big thank you to the Springdale Chamber and the Springdale School District for bringing this great group of future stars to come see us! This program was made possible by the generous support of Springdale School District and the AEP Foundation, at the recommendation of Southwestern Electric Power Company - SWEPCO. #swepco #sdaleschools #marshallese #mei #nwti #springdalechamber #nwarkansas
