As far as we know, Arthur Singleton and Jessie Lockett did not know each other when they arrived in France with the American Expeditionary Forces in autumn 1918.
Their fates intertwined years later, when their families united through the marriage of Lockett’s son to Singleton’s daughter — and again in 2024, when their mutual granddaughter donated their manuscript collections to the Veterans History Project. AJ is a 2010 graduate of our I.S. Program, as taught by NWTI fixture, Instructor Molly Colorado. What makes this guest speaker engagement that much more interesting is that AJ's son, Hunter, is a current member of the class!
Here's a little bit of AJ's background...
• Former Marine that did 2 tours in Iraq
• Worked at CompuCom where he helped develop Walmart's self-checkout system
• Spent 8 years at the U of A in Info Tech
• Currently works at Signature Bank where he is the Computer Support Analyst and Help Desk Manager for all 11 branches
• Also known as "The Ticket Master"

Yesterday students Friedrich Lauti, Jose Delgadillo, Jessie Torrijos, and Daniel Lee worked on a 3-phase motor control in instructor Ty Woods' ELECTRONICS AND AUTOMATION class.
For us non-technical people, it's like three people pushing a merry-go-round in rhythm instead of one person shoving it randomly. You might (or might not) be wondering what that has to do with our everyday life?
They matter anywhere you need serious power that runs smoothly and doesn’t quit. You already rely on them more than you think.
• HVAC systems – big air conditioners, heat pumps, commercial furnaces
• Elevators & escalators – smooth starts, no jerky motion

First up we have Jonathan Virden from the One Motion company. Jonathan won a motor control competition for completion of a functioning circuit he designed. A timer relay forward reverse high voltage 3 phase motor. He executed that in our Short Term Industry Training “Motor Controls class.”
Most of us have no idea what that actually means, but that’s a big part of why NWTI is here; to teach and upgrade skills that keep essential equipment we all depend upon running AND improving.
We also have a picture of all the certificate earners from that class. Congratulations! Well done!
One Motion donated some direct current motors to NWTI for educational purposes. Shout out to One Motion!
